It's nice to have one
Königsdisziplin - supreme discipline; leading, principal activity
This very nice frequently used German expression can be used in two different ways. One the hand Königsdisziplin is some ambitious discipline, which demands special competence and skills in this area. On the other hand Königsdisziplin describes any activity somebody is especially good at.
Der Marathon ist die Königsdisziplin des Laufsports.
Er hat sehr viele Talente, aber Malen- ist seine Königsdisziplin

Der innere Schweinehund: very dangerous animal, Germans are often fighting with.
Piggydog or Doggypig? Anyway according to this very funny colourful German expression you have to fight it if you want to achieve anything. Why? Here is the explanation:
Den/seinen inneren Schweinehund überwinden -
- to overcome, conquer one's weaker self
- to avoid procrastination
- to fight inner couch potato
Beispiel: Du musst deinen inneren Schweinehund überwinden und anfangen Sport zu treiben!
Example: You have to overcome your weaker self (to fight your inner couch potato) and begin to go in for sports!

Was ziehst du heute an: Spendierhosen oder Sparstrumpf?
Dependent on their financial situation Germans prefer either the "Spendierhosen" or the "Sparstrumpf"
Spendierhosen anhaben - to feel generous, to be in generous mood
- Die Coktails gehen heute auf mich! (The coktails are on me today)
- Oh, da hat jemand seine Spendierhosen an! (Oh, somebody is in a generous mood today!)
Sparstrumpf - money sock
Für diesen Urlaub muss ich tief in meinen Sparstrumpf greifen (For this vacation I have to grab deep in my saving sock)
Spendierhosen anhaben - to feel generous, to be in generous mood
